Once again the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History proudly hosts its famous weekly Nature Camps. This year's theme is Getting Hooked on Science & History. Participants have the opportunity to explore science and history through games, crafts, and interactive lessons (everything from building volcanoes to making paper). Campers will learn about sciences that work toward uncovering our past, preserving our planet, and improving our future all in historical context.
The week-long Summer Nature Camps are targeted for children ages four to twelve. Camps start the week of June 11 and continue through the week of August 17, for a total of nine weeks.
Week One (June 11-June 15): Texas Time Warp
Week Two (June 18- June 15): Earth Care
Week Three (June 25- June 29): Dinosaurs, T-rex and more
Week Four (July 2- July 6): Outdoor Camping
Week Five (July 9- July 13): Backyard Critters

The Brazos Valley Museum offers children ages the opportunity to learn about Texas history, the role they can play in caring for the earth through recycling, the ancient world of dinosaurs, outdoor camping in a safe and supervised environment, critters in our backyards, learn about the diverse world of birds. They experiment with kitchen chemistry, learn about how animals move, and get wet and wild while learning about aquatic life forms.
Registration for Summer Nature Camp is open to museum members as early as April 2nd and to non-members starting May 7th. Camp costs are $135/week for members and $155/week for non-members. Discounts are available for pre-registration and multiple campers.
The Museum continues its summer adventure with Summer Extension Day Camps (SEDC). This year's topic is "Nature's Dangers." Campers will learn about dangers in nature on a day by day basis. They will understand the role served by venom and poison and how plant and animals, even in our back yards, use venom in protection and hunting.
Campers may sign up by the day or for the entire week on Extension Week. This year's schedule is: Monday (8/20)- Venomous Reptiles, Tuesday (8/21)- Venomous Insects/Spiders, Wednesday (8/22)- Poisonous Plants, Thursday (8/23)- Nature's Most Extreme, Friday (8/24)- Natural Disasters. Special prices apply.
Extension Day Camps will run from 9 am to 3 pm and will cost $32/day for members, and $34/day for non-members. ($10 discount for registration of all 5 days.) Before-camp (early drop-off) and after-camp (late pick-up) will be offered at an additional cost.
The summer nature camps of the Brazos Valley Museum, offered for some twenty consecutive years, are the longest running and best established day camps in this region. The Museum invites you to take part in this summer's fun-filled educational adventure!
