First Christian Church of 900 South Ennis opened one of Bryan's premiere mother's day out programs in 1980. Since that time our program has evolved into a well-rounded preschool that features hands-on-learning, character development, manners, pre-reading, writing, and math skills as well as the fine arts.
We like to have fun! In addition to from-scratch cooking experiences, earth and applied science and gloriously messy creative art, we have parties for all the holidays, Winnie the Pooh Day, Pajama Day and Water Day. In celebration of our 25th year, we even had a marvelously madcap Mud Mania Day! We also held a reunion get-together at Gattitown for school-age children and their parents from the previous ten years.
Our motto is "Caring Hands and Hearts." In a world where negative influences impact children's hearts and minds at younger and younger ages, out teachers at First Christian are expected to model self-control, patience, good manners and speech and a joyous reverence for the Lord.
Unfortunately, decades of childhood programs stressing self-esteem have produced a generation focused on self. Within our small, loving environment children are encouraged to live the Golden Rule, be kind and care for the less fortunate. Responsibility and accountability yield resilient, optimistic young individuals who are self confident, but not self-centered. Our graduates continue to prove they are not only likeable and fun to be around, but also successful throughout their school years.
